Relative Clauses

Ortak noktası olan iki cümleyi birleştirirken aynı kelimeyi iki kere tekrar etmek yerine ya da iki ayrı cümle yazmak yerine, tek bir cümle olarak birleştiririz. İkinci cümledeki tekrar eden kelimeyi atar ve yerine :

Kişilerde : -who- ya da –that

Nesnelerde/hayvanlarda: -which- ya da –that-

Yerlerde/mekanlarda: -where-

KULLANIRIZ

EX:

Jane is a doctor. She works at the Central Hospital

Jane is a doctor who works at the Central Hospital

(Hem Jane i hem she yi içeren iki cümleyi –who- kullanarak tek cümle haline getirdik)

EX:

Knife is a thing. You use it for chopping the onions.

Knife is the thing which you use for chopping the onions.

EX:

This is a hotel. I stayed here last summer.

This is the hotel where I stayed last summer.

EX:

Stuff/milk/cake/make/use/you

Kelimelerinden anlamlı bir cümle yapmamız gerekirse:

Milk is the stuff that (which) you use for making cakes (a cake)
