Past Continuous Tense

*Geçmişte belirgin bir zamanda olan ve çoğunlukla süreç gerektiren eylemlerde kullanılır.

EX: What were you doing at 10 o'clock last night?


*Sıklıkla hikayelerin başında durumu açıklamak için  kullanılır.

EX: It all happened last year. I was staying by the sea with friends.

*Eğer Past Contiuous ve Simple Past tense'leri aynı cümlede kullanılacaksa, Past Continuous tense'i daha uzun sürede gerçekleşen, arka plan eylemi olarak kullanırız. Simple Past ı ise Past Continuous ile ifade edilen arka plan eylemini bölen eylemi ifade ederken kullanırız.

EX: I was walking through the park when the storm began.
       While I was walking through the park, the storm began.
       When I was walking through the park, the storm began.
