Past Perfect

Geçmişte yaşanan iki olaydan ilkini anlatırken kullanılır. İkinci olay ise Simple Past ile ifade edilir. Genellikle “By the time” , “before” , “after” gibi ifadeler ile kullanılır.

EX:

·         By the time I arrived at the station, the train had already left. [istasyona vardığımda tren çoktan kalkmıştı]

(Burada ilk olay trenin çoktan kalkmış olması. İkinci olay ise benim istasyona varmam. Dolayısıyle; trenin kalkması Past Perfect, benim varmam Simple Past olur.)

·         Before my mother came, I had finished my homework. [Annem gelmeden önce ödevimi bitirmiştim]

·         After I had done shopping, I met with Robert [Alışveriş yaptıktan sonra Robert ile buluştum]

OLUMLU YAPI:

I / You / He / She / It / We / They       >           had         >                   Past Participle (V3)

OLUMSUZ YAPI:

I / You / He / She / It / We / They       >           hadn’t         >             Past Participle (V3)

SORU:

Had         >                       I / You / He / She / It / We / They       >            Past Participle (V3)   > ?

KISA CEVAP:

Yes, I / You / He / She / It / We / They       >           had.

No, I / You / He / She / It / We / They       >           hadn’t.
